AN ESTIMATED of two million people joined the 51st Notting Hill Carnival in London over the Bank Holiday weekend, making it Europe’s biggest street party and only rivalled in size by Rio. Begun by West Indian migrants as a celebration of all things Caribbean,the two-day festival has now become an exuberant affirmation of the capital’s diverse culture in which people of all backgrounds and ages come along to enjoy.
